Hallo mallo! How’s life?

You guys may be wondering what the Exchange Department does. Well, basically we’re in charge of running the International Traineeship Exchange Program (ITEP) -- AIESEC’s flagship project which distinguishes us from the other University orgs. In AIESEC Philippines, ITEP is known as the New Professionals Exchange for Tomorrow Program (NEXT). NEXT is a reciprocal exchange program which enables students to go on a traineeship in a NEXT participating company.

NEXT is subdivided into 2 cycles, namely the company cycle (TN side) & the student cycle (SN side).
Under the TN side, exchange Account Executives start by approaching prospective companies to introduce NEXT. AXs are tasked with marketing NEXT to the companies and making them realize the advantages of taking part in NEXT. Not only will they be able to help train a fresh graduate, they will also gain fresh ideas with a global perspective as the trainee will bring with him information from his own company.

Upon agreeing to join NEXT, the company will have to begin filling up forms with the help of the AX. These forms will contain the company’s specifications as to the qualifications of the trainee needed. The completed forms are then sent to AIESEC International (AI) for the target run. Target is the software used to match companies’ requirement with students’ qualifications. The target run is scheduled once every 2 months. Once a match is obtained, the AX now prepares to arrange for the trainee’s VISA, housing and other necessary details.

On the other hand, the SN cycle begins with the NEXT Recruitment Week which happens once every semester. Graduating students within the University are invited to sign up for a NEXT Traineeship. This is followed by the Next Traineeship Orientation Seminar (NTOS), which is meant to introduce NEXT to the students. Talks are given about AIESEC (for the benefit of those who are non-AIESECERS), testimonials of students who have gone on traineships abroad, and by foreign trainees currently in the country on traineeships. These are meant to enlighten the students on the true purpose of NEXT which is to promote International and Cultural Understanding.

The final requirement is the Review Board Interview (RBI) wherein applicants are interviewed by a panel composed of an AIESEC alumnus, a professor/academician, a business person, & a psychologist. The RBI will determine who are fit to go on traineeship and only those who pass it are allowed to be entered in the Target Run. When a match is realized, the AX has to coordinate with the AIESEC foreign LC to arrange the student’s VISA, housing and flight details.

This year Exchange will also be involved in the different projects of the Projects Department. This is in line with the objectives of the new P&P approach wherein Exchange & Projects must align its activities to produce more relevant results. Whereas before we were only concerned with raising traineeships & keeping our trainees happy, now we would also be involved in planning & implementing the different projects of our LC...

ENOUGH OF THE SERIOUS STUFF !!!

You may think that all we do is work. What you don’t know is that AIESECERS work hard BUT WE PARTY EVEN HARDER!!! Proof? Exchange is the only department that has a weekly gimmick -- STAMMTISCH. This is a weekly gathering of AIESECERS & trainees from the 7 Metro Manila LCs. It happens every Tuesday nights at 9:00 pm at San Mig, Greenbelt .

If you’re still not convinced that Exchange is also about having fun, we also organize soccer / basketball games at Tahanan Village, PARTIES, PARTIES & MORE PARTIES (e.g. welcome / farewell dinners, birthdays, etc.) for the trainees, TBS’ & out of town trips. In the past we went to Caliraya, Pagsanjan Falls, Angono Rizal, Puerto Galera, Sagada Mt. Province. For this year, we plan to go to Subic (bungee jumping, anyone?), Banawe, Enchanted Kingdom, CEBU & (hopefully..) Dakak!!! So for those of you who want to have fun while in AIESEC,then there’s no other department for you but EXCHANGE !!!!!

EXCHANGE
TRIVIA:

- 5 out of 8 EB officers were once from EXCHANGE (ganyan kami ka galing!)
- the girl who said "Don’t Ever wear torn jeans" in the Blue Ice Commercial was our trainee last year -- Claire Mula from Australia
- the Forrest Gulp guy in the Cali Commercial is also our trainee -- Jake Snijders from the Netherlands
- another former trainee used to model for Giorgio Armani in Europe (secret na lang kung sino siya -- ganun siya ka cutie !!!)
- AIESEC UPD averages 9 trainees a year, an achievement that is yet to be topped by the other LCs
